Sunday Adeyemo, often known as Sunday Igboho, is a Yoruba activist. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) sent Sunday Igboho a strong warning not to take any independent action against bandits in the Southwest without first consulting the military and other security authorities.

Recently, Sunday Igboho asked his followers to take action against the Fulani herdsmen who are wreaking havoc and preventing indigenous farmers from accessing their land in the Southwest instead of waiting for government involvement. Now that his mother was dead, he vowed to deal with them.

In response to Igboho’s call, the DHQ stressed that any action performed without the participation of security agencies would be considered unconstitutional.

The spokesman for Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba said: “If what he said is to make the situation better, he is welcomed, but if what he is saying is that we should disregard the armed forces of Nigeria, definitely, he is out of line because that is against Nigeria’s constitution.”

He thanked Igboho for his bravery and assured him that the military would work with him if his goal were to improve the security situation in the nation.

“I have not seen the video where he made that statement, but one thing I must say is that people and communities are always welcome. If what he said is to make the situation better, he is welcomed, but if what he is saying is that we should disregard the armed forces of Nigeria, definitely, he is out of line because that is against Nigeria’s constitution,” he reiterated.
