The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has described the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s performance in four of the five legislative bye-elections conducted across three geopolitical zones as significant ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Keyamo made the observation in a social media post on Sunday while commenting on the outcome of Saturday’s bye-elections.

The APC secured victories in Kano State in the North-West, Bauchi and Gombe states in the North-East, as well as Delta State in the South-South.

The party, however, suffered a defeat in the Sakwa State Constituency election in Bauchi State, where the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) emerged victorious.

In Kano State, APC candidate Hussaini Yusuf Datti won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency bye-election after recording 22,890 votes.

In Bauchi, APC candidate Yakubu Ali secured the Disina State Constituency seat with 5,846 votes, while the APM candidate polled 5,225 votes.

The ruling party also emerged victorious in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency election in Gombe State, with its candidate, Kallamu Usman MaiJama’a, securing 41,121 votes.

In Delta State, APC candidate Okolosi Ator won the Udu State Constituency seat with 8,724 votes.

The APM, however, secured the Sakwa State Constituency seat in Bauchi after its candidate polled 8,515 votes.

Reacting to the results, Keyamo said the fact that the APC recorded victories across three geopolitical regions was particularly significant as the country moves towards the 2027 general elections.

The minister also drew attention to the constitutional provision requiring a presidential candidate to obtain at least 25 per cent of the votes in two-thirds of Nigeria’s states and the Federal Capital Territory.

He noted that the constitutional requirement reflects the country’s diverse political and geographical structure.

“Let me keep our gunpowder dry for now. A fuller analysis of this significant factor in Presidential elections will follow on January 19th or 20th, 2027,” Keyamo said.
