According to Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, it is now the people’s turn to reap the benefits of democracy in his state.

Otti stated that he was on a mission to provide good governance to the general public, not just a select group of wealthy politicians. He made this proclamation at Government House Umuahia while entertaining a delegation of Course 17, Syndicate 2 of the National Institute for Security Studies, Abuja.

He claimed that since democracy was restored in 1999, the politicians in charge of the state’s operations had benefited themselves excessively from the common heritage.

The governor explained to the crowd that his recent move to eliminate the backlog of pension arrears owing to pensioners since 2014 was an expression of his love for the common people, who he believed had been let down by the ruling class.

He said, “never again shall Abia pensioners be owed their pension.”

He added that he had also directed that they be paid along with workers on the 28th of every month, a directive, he affirmed, had taken effect from April.

“This is the people’s time, politicians have helped themselves enough for the past 24 years”, Otti added.
