A retired military officer, General Jafar Mohamed Gajare, has announced his intention to contest for the Kebbi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Gajare secured his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms in Abuja, stating that his decision to join the race is motivated by a desire to contribute to national development, especially in tackling insecurity and boosting the economy.

He said his more than three decades of military experience would be brought into play if elected into the National Assembly.

“By the grace of God, I will be contesting for the position of Senator for Kebbi South Senatorial District,” he said.

Speaking on his agenda, the retired general noted that insecurity remains a major concern in Kebbi State and across Nigeria, adding that he would focus on legislative backing for security reforms and economic growth.

“My people are faced with a lot of security challenges, so I will ensure that I contribute in that direction. With my experience of 32 years in the military, I believe I have something to offer,” he said.

Gajare dismissed claims of internal crisis within the Kebbi APC, stating that he enjoys a cordial relationship with Governor Nasir Idris. “My relationship with the governor is perfect and cordial. He is loved by his people because of the good work he is doing in the state,” he said.

On opposition activities in the state, including those of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Gajare maintained that the APC remains firmly in control, dismissing suggestions that opposition figures could pose a serious challenge in Kebbi.
