Those who identify as Muslims are followers of the monotheistic religion of the Abrahamic heritage. They believe that the Quran, the foundational religious text of Islam, is the exact word of Allah, the God of Abraham, as revealed to Muhammad, the principal Islamic prophet.

Muslims believe in earlier revelations, including the Tawrat (the Torah; from Hebrew), the Zabur (Psalms), and the Injeel (Gospel), in addition to the Quran.

Still, the bill’s sponsors, lawmakers, haven’t tried to hide their intentions. They have even gone so far as to declare in public that they want to ban all facets of Muslim life in the nation permanently.

Sao Tome & Principe is the only country in the African continent without a mosque. Devout Christians who constantly identify as Roman Catholics make up the majority of people. That being said, Muslims make up a much smaller portion of the population than Christians do. This explains why there aren’t any mosques in the area.
