The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has criticized Governor Hope Uzodinma’s recent State of the State address, calling it deceptive, lacking in honesty, and disconnected from the realities on ground.

According to the PDP, the governor’s speech, delivered during his official visit to the State House of Assembly, highlighted the administration’s failure to effectively address the worsening insecurity and economic difficulties affecting the state.

In a statement released by the party’s spokesperson, Lancelot Obiaku, the PDP described the governor’s remarks as “full of emptiness, uninspiring with old tales without positive future.”

According to the statement: “There was nothing new from his last address a year and half ago. He literally read the same script but an edited version bearing a new set of lies and make-believe.

“Uzodinma again, spent quality minutes blaming an unnamed opposition for the insecurity that has ravaged the state since his infamous ascension to power as governor in 2020. It was the same old and empty rhetoric. In addition, he lied that his administration has now overcome the menace of insecurity.”

Obiaku argued that it is both alarming and disheartening that the governor is claiming to have curbed insecurity, while numerous local government areas across the state are still in crisis.

“Okigwe, Onuimo, Ihitte-Uboma, Owerri West, Oguta, Ngor-Okpala, Orsu, and Orlu LGAs are currently under the siege of hoodlums, kidnappers, terrorists, and organ harvesters. He intentionally forgot that on May 6, 2025, a sad incident occurred in Ngor-Okpala where 26 passengers were kidnapped on the Owerri-Aba road and one of them reportedly shot dead on the spot by suspected Fulani terrorists.

“The whereabouts of the rest 25 are unknown up till today. Also, on May 8, in what has become a routine strike in some LGAs, unknown gunmen launched attack in Umuna in Okigwe LGA, burning over twenty trucks, razing shops, and reportedly taking more than 20 innocent lives, leaving many families in agony,” Obiaku further stated.

Obiaku also mentioned that several lives were lost in Agwa, Oguta LGA, following assaults by alleged Fulani militants, and that Amakohia-Ubi in Owerri West continues to face recurring attacks believed to be perpetrated by the same group.

He further claimed that neighboring areas such as Avu, Obinze, and Okuku are witnessing a growing wave of abductions, ritual-related killings, and violent attacks.

The PDP spokesperson accused Governor Uzodinma of ignoring these crises and attempting to paint a false picture of progress, while failing to protect the lives and property of the state’s residents.

“After spending over an hour massaging his ego, and reeling off his purported achievements, Gov Uzodinma did not tell Imo people how much has accrued to the state, both as federal allocation to the state and local governments, intervention funds, and internally generated revenue, in the last five years, and how they were spent,” Obiaku added.

He noted that the main aspect of the event was neglected, pointing out that the Governor could not answer questions about contracts claimed by his administration, or say to whom they were awarded.

“The recent State of the State address by Gov Uzodinma like any other he did in the past is a mere jamboree. It is worthless, empty and useless,” he concluded.
