The identities of six officers who were allegedly killed in Delta State have been made public by the Nigeria Police Force.
As ZINGTIE recalls, three mobile police officers were kidnapped by unknown gunmen in January as they were attending to a distress call at the Ohoro hamlet in the state’s Ughelli North LGA.
The three officers were reportedly part of six mobile police officers assigned to a roadblock on the Ughelli-Patani road.
The officers’ AK-47 weapons, which were filled with ammunition, were also taken by the kidnappers.
A few weeks after the incident, it was claimed that several police officers had been called in to save their fellow officers who had been kidnapped.
The police officers in Ughelli LGA’s Ohoro forest were ambushed and killed during the rescue efforts.
The bodies of the six killed officers have been found, according to a statement made on Saturday by the Force’s spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, while the search for the remaining six officers is still ongoing.
“The bodies of six (6) of the slain officers have been recovered after a fierce search conducted by a combined team of police officers and other security outfits.
“The Force is focused on the search for the other six (6) officers; while all their families have been duly contacted,” he said.
That was the names of the fallen officers, according to him are Inspector Abe Olubunmi (IRT) enlisted on August 1, 2003; Inspector Friday Irorere (51 PMF) enlisted on January 1, 2003; Sergeant Kuden Elisha (51 PMF) enlisted on October 17, 2011; Sergeant Akpan Aniette (51 PMF) enlisted on October 17, 2011; Sergeant Ayere Paul (IRT) enlisted on October 17, 2011; and Sergeant Ejemito Friday (51 PMF) enlisted on October 17, 2011.
He went on to list the officers who are currently missing: Inspector Joel Hamidu enlisted on June 1, 2006; Sergeant Moses Eduvie enlisted on October 17, 2011 (all 51 PMF); and Sergeant Cyril Okorie (SWAT) enlisted on October 17, 2011. Inspector Onoja Daniel enlisted on February 1, 2003; Inspector Onogho Felix enlisted on January 1, 2004; Inspector Emmanuel Okoroafor enlisted on April 1, 2004.
He claims that by celebrating the bravery, devotion, and sacrifice of the dead heroes, the police authorities are dedicated to paying tribute to their memories.
He stated that on April 5, at the police awards and commendations ceremony in Abuja, the departed officers will be given posthumous accolades.
Five people are being held in connection with the police officers’ murder, according to a spokesperson for the Force.
