Justice Mohammed Garba Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged fake Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

The judge brought the trial to an end on Monday following an application by the Federal Government, which indicated that Adeyemi would be transferred to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for a fresh arraignment.

During Monday’s proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, formally applied for the termination of the existing charges.

Oyedepo informed the court that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, had reviewed the case file and the charges initially filed by the Inspector General of Police, identifying certain legal deficiencies.

He explained, among other issues, that the documents Adeyemi allegedly forged while operating the purported agency fell within the jurisdiction of the High Court of the FCT rather than the Federal High Court.

The DPPF further disclosed that a fresh charge had already been filed before the High Court of the FCT and that the defendant would be arraigned there without unnecessary delay.

He consequently requested that the Federal High Court strike out the existing charge in accordance with the law.

Counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application, after which Justice Umar granted the request and struck out the charges.

Adeyemi, 38, had been facing trial alongside two other defendants who were reportedly at large, over allegations involving conspiracy and forgery.

The two individuals were identified as Femi, whose surname was not provided, and Anu, also without a known surname.

The case, registered as FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025, was instituted against the defendant by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation.
