Military retirees on Tuesday blocked the entrance to the Military Pensions Board office in Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, in protest against the formula being used to calculate adjustments to their pensions.

The veterans obstructed access to the premises with canopies and chairs, while armed soldiers restricted their entry into the office.

The demonstration follows a similar protest staged by retired military personnel at the Ministry of Defence in September, during which they demanded higher pensions after salary increases were approved for serving military officers.

Defence Minister Christopher Musa had reportedly assured the retirees that their pension payments would be adjusted in October.

However, the veterans have raised concerns over the calculation method adopted by the Military Pensions Board, alleging that the formula has deprived some retirees of the full benefits they expected.

Their main complaint is that the pension adjustment mechanism does not adequately reflect the salary increases granted to serving military personnel.

The latest protest highlights continuing dissatisfaction among retired members of the armed forces over their welfare and pension entitlements, despite the earlier assurance from the Defence Minister.

The retirees are calling for an equitable review of their pensions, insisting that the adjustment formula must properly account for the salary increases that triggered their previous demonstration.
