There are signs suggesting that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) may release Martins Otse, a well-known social media figure popularly referred to as VeryDarkMan, on Tuesday.

It has also been gathered that the agency is planning to bring formal charges against him in court by Thursday.

A top-ranking EFCC official, who requested not to be named, confirmed the situation on Monday, explaining that although Otse is still being held, no formal charges have been filed yet.

VDM was taken into custody after he publicly criticized a bank over claims of unauthorized withdrawals from his mother’s account.

His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, verified the arrest on X, stating that VDM and his associate, C Park, were detained by police officers.

On Monday, young demonstrators in Abuja organized a protest in response to the arrest of the activist.

The protesters moved from the EFCC headquarters to a bank branch, carrying signs demanding VeryDarkMan’s freedom and raising questions about President Tinubu’s involvement.

They described the arrest and continued detention as illegal, demanded accountability, and pledged to take their concerns to the Nigerian Human Rights Commission.
