The purpose of Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s visit to President Bola Tinubu on Monday has been made clear by Gyang Bere, the governor of Plateau State’s director of press and public affairs.

According to him, the president was being visited in order to inform him of the growing security threats facing the state and to request immediate action.

Bere addressed the misunderstandings on social media regarding the governor’s behaviour in a press release that was made accessible to journalists in Jos, the state capital. She emphasised that the visit was not intended as a celebration but rather as a genuine attempt to bring attention to the security situation.

According to him: “Prior to the Lagos visit, Governor Mutfwang had granted an interview on Channels and Arise Television, declaring his intention of going to meet with the President to solicit support over the renewed security challenges in the state.

“The governor had earlier visited Mangu Local Government Area, which had been ravaged by severe attacks. Following this, he held a meeting with the General Officer Commanding 3rd Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven OPSH, issuing a directive to secure affected communities.”

Bere expressed shock at comments made on social media and emphasised the governor’s proactive reaction to the attacks on Christmas Eve, which included meeting with the impacted communities in person and planning with security services.

“The decision to meet with Mr. President was aimed at briefing him on the renewed violence for appropriate action,” he explained.

He went on to say that there were excellent outcomes from Governor Mutfwang’s talks with President Tinubu and other governors.

“Consequently, Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and security chiefs were dispatched to Plateau to assess the security situation.

“Following the briefing, President Tinubu ordered security personnel to apprehend the perpetrators and mobilise relief resources for surviving victims,” he stated.

Bere also reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to placing a high priority on the safety of people and property in Plateau, highlighting the governor’s top concern for the wellbeing of the populace.
