Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy and Colombian pop star Shakira thrilled fans with a performance of the official 2026 FIFA World Cup anthem, “Dai Dai”.

The two global music icons took centre stage during the opening ceremony of the tournament on Thursday at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

The colourful ceremony was held shortly after the opening fixture involving Mexico and South Africa.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup marks a historic milestone, with 48 nations participating in the competition for the first time.

The tournament is being jointly hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

Burna Boy energized the crowd with a vibrant rendition of “Dai Dai”, showcasing his trademark stage presence and performance style.

Shakira later joined the celebration, delivering the opening verse of the tournament’s official theme song after an earlier performance by J Balvin.

The performances drew loud cheers from spectators as the World Cup officially got underway in front of a global audience.
